Claude Debussy, (1862-1918), was the creator and leading exponent of French musical impressionism. Serenade of the Dolls is taken from the piano book “Children’s Corner” which was written for his daughter. These pieces were written from 1906 to 1908.
The sound of impressionistic music is rare in the flute choir literature. This arrangement fills a performance gap for flute choirs. See a review in the October 2006 Flute Talk, page 38.
