Written for sopranino, 2 sopranos, 3 altos, 2 tenors, baritone and bass saxophone or optional 2nd baritone sax. Capriccio Espagnol is one of Rimsky-Korsakov's most energetic works. The Capriccio consists of five movements based on Spanish melodies (dances), Alborada, is a festive and exciting dance, Variazioni, theme and variations of this melody, Alborada repeated in a different key, Scena e canto gitano ("Scene and gypsy song") opens with five cadenzas followed by a dance in triple time leading into the final movement, Fandango asturiano, is also an energetic dance from the Asturias region of northern Spain. The piece ends with an even more rousing statement of the Alborada theme. This has been arranged by Gary Bricault.
